1969 Topps Pete Rose Baseball Card #120While writing the previous post about a baseball card collection, I got curious as to what some of my own cards might be worth…not even my Pete Rose is coming up roses. This auction features a 1969 Topps Pete Rose baseball card with a current bid of a measly $6, which means I’d probably have to pay someone to take the rest of my cards.

So to make myself feel a little better, I’m going to boast about the highly debated inventor of baseball, Abner Doubleday, being born in my miss-it-if-you-blink hometown of Ballston Spa, New York. Doubleday is also famous for having fired the first shot in defense of Fort Sumter — take that Pete Rose.

All in the Cards

1961 Topps Baseball Card Complete SetBaseball card collectors are sure to scramble for this auction: a 1961 Topps complete set. Some of the names that make the starting bid of $2,500 worth it would be Mantle and Maris. However, a recent article I read should raise some flags, making it a good idea to do your research to see what other legends played during that year.

According to the article, unless the card is a classic, then the current baseball card market simply isn’t retaining the value it used to. However, one or two gems in this collection could make it all more than worth it.

Bye Bye Miss American Pie

Beatles vintage 1971 John Lennon signed Imagine posterI’ve never had a Chevy and as far as I know I’ve never been to a levy. But I’m sure I’d jump on the opportunity to bid on an autographed poster of John Lennon if I had the coin. This is an awesome vintage 1971 John Lennon signed “Imagine” poster. This still photo of Lennon performing one of his most famous songs is part of a very rare series of such posters.

The autograph is completely authentic and the poster condition is near mint.

Goodbye to a Gridiron Giant

Brett Favre 1991 Rookie Card Lot RCWell folks, this may actually be the final farewell for Greenbay Packers’ Brett Favre. This week, Favre called Packers coach to let him know he wouldn’t be returning to the field next season. Favre has made this claim several times now, having seesawed between retirement and continuing on for the last few seasons. But as he told ESPN reporters, only a Super Bowl win would make it worth the return. But when we look at the Giants’ ridiculous victory of the Pats, we’re reminded that anything can happen on any given Sunday.

Check out this auction for some cool Favre rookie cards. They’re sure to jack up in value once Favre undoubtedly gets into the Hall of Fame.

Gene Simmons LTD Edition Autographed AXE GuitarThis guitar is awesome! Even though I have no idea how to play guitar, I’m still getting the urge to bid on this bad boy. This is an authentic Gene Simmons limited edition autographed axe guitar. As you can see, it really is an axe! I’m not sure if the co-founder of Kiss actually ripped any fire-breathing chords out of this, but the autograph makes this one hell of a collector’s item!

This axe guitar is handmade and features neck-through-body construction. Plus, the guitar is part of a numbered series, making the long term value growth pretty enticing.

Just one high-roller

10 Acres New Mexico Ranchette Lake ConchasAll it takes is a plan, some land and one high-roller and you could be on your way to a lucrative future. Right now, the starting bid for 10 acres in New Mexico (near Las Vegas) is only $800. For true visionaries and investors with enough cajoles to sign off on some venture capital, this could be quite the gem.

Construction and development has got to be more than fairly priced in this location, so build a modest mansion and a private jet airstrip and then lure in just one high-roller. Then, you let the magic of word of mouth go to business for you as high-rollers are almost always heavily connected. If they tell just one of their friends, then your business is off and running as Vegas’ best-kept secret.

Air Jordan XXIIIMichael Jordon will definitely remain one of the most amazing men to grace a basketball court — there’s simply no doubt about that. But where the doubt does lay is if these sneakers are worth over a thousand dollars. The Air Jordan XXIII series is heating up as one of the most sought-after pair of sneaks on the planet, so perhaps that price could be considered pretty low!

Granted, these are limited edition sneakers, with only 1,058 available across the globe. So that right there does quite a bit to justify the price. But couldn’t they have at least made them a little better looking?

Forbidden Planet: Robby the RobotSocially awkward? Staring at the wall on Friday nights? Then bid on Robby the Robot — you’re new best friend! Robby is a prop replica from the 1955 science-fiction motion picture Forbidden Planet. This has got to be one of the most famous robots in movie history and beyond.

This auction features Robby number 23 out of the 100 total for this collector’s edition. Albeit, I don’t think he functions well enough to chauffeur you around town, but this model does appear to have some working, moving parts though!

Hillary Rodham Clinton Upper Deck 2008 trading cardThis auction provides the opportunity to bid on a mint condition Hillary Rodham Clinton Upper Deck 2008 trading card. This is a single card going off with a starting bid of $500! There aren’t even any errors on this card to explain such a high price. Apparently, this is an extremely rare item. But you should always look out for such self-proclamations; there may be thousands out there.

However, the fact that this is the first time a woman has held such a competitive run for presidential candidacy does make this card valuable. And if she does become president, this card would surely be worth much more at that time — it’s like betting on futures in sports.

T-Shirt Worn by Penélope Cruz in SaharaHer prop shirt worn in a movie of course! Let’s face it, only gods among men find there way in there. Anyway, this item is a t-shirt worn by Penelope Cruz as Eva Rojas in the move Sahara. Commonly known as the “Spanish Enchantress,” Cruz captures hearts within a split second of seeing her gorgeous features and absolutely delectable accent.

Now, paying over a $100 for a shirt is not unheard of, but I think I’d rather pay $100 for a nice kiss from the lady. But hey, you could get really lucky and find some nice sweat stains and really get your money’s worth!
